These recent watercolour paintings of Stirling Castle and the River Forth are inspired by the daily changing views and the different seasons. The Forth’s meandering, tidal riverscape, at Stirling is exciting to try to capture. The amazing light and atmosphere, seeing the river change before my eyes and attempting to convey that impression, painting direct from life, the same scene is repeated in many different moods. The Castle at Stirling is a collection of buildings, added to and altered over centuries. It is fascinating to paint from all its viewpoints, illustrating the many facets of its built history. Its iconic status, the setting, the weather, the trees around the Castle are a great attraction for a painter.
