The Leighton Library
The Leighton Library, just across the road from the Museum, is the oldest private library in Scotland, dating from 1687. It was built for the 1,500 books of Robert Leighton, Bishop of Dunblane (1611-1648), who left a sum of money in his will for the building of the library.
